Weichai: 15 Years of Independent Innovation and Achievements in the Enterprise

"Buying equipment is not as good as buying technology. Buying technology is not as good as buying talent. Buying talent is not as good as building a platform." This is how Weichai people think about technological innovation. In the past 15 years, Weichai has always grasped the pulse of market demand, continuously developed new products, and started from product innovation, continuously enriched its innovation content, expanded innovation to achieve innovation in manufacturing capabilities and levels through investment equipment, and achieved autonomy through the introduction of talents. Technological innovation, through the establishment of R & D project platform to achieve the innovation of core competitiveness by combining production, learning and research. At present, Weichai has built a full range of product platforms in all fields, formed a set of independent innovation R&D system, created an industrial collaborative R&D model, and promoted a series of strategic layouts of original and core technologies.

In order to enhance the ability of original innovation and integrated innovation , Weichai has accelerated the introduction of overseas high-end talents. Since 2008, the top leaders personally led the team to overseas positions and recruited 65 overseas high-end talents to join companies. It is reported that at present, key positions such as chief scientist, strategic director, legal director, and information technology director of Weichai Group are all supported by overseas high-end talents introduced in recent years. In the process of developing the Lanqing engine and high-voltage common rail electronic control system in Weichai's autonomous development country, overseas high-end talents and domestic experts have made innovative contributions.

The ratio of Weichai R&D investment to sales revenue has been increasing year by year. Relevant data show that during the six years from 2007 to 2012, Weichai Power's R&D investment has tripled.

Abundant research and development funds and excellent talents have not only ensured that Weichai has continuously developed new products, but also made Weichai's R&D system straight from the past—from laboratories, design rooms, process rooms, management offices, etc. The constituent technical departments have developed into a matrix type - establishing different research and development centers, research institutes, design offices and other departments on several scientific research platforms to form an overall scientific research entity.

With the development of Weichai in the market, domestic and overseas reorganization projects have come one after another, and corporate products and business projects have been continuously enriched. Therefore, Weichai’s R&D system has also been improved along with the expansion of the group size. At present, Weichai has established nine industrial parks in Weifang, Chongqing, Xi'an, Shaanxi, Zhuzhou, Hunan, and Yangzhou, Jiangsu. After the acquisition of the French Boduuan Engine Company, Ferretti Yachts of Italy, and the German KION Group, the business sector has From a single engine, it has evolved into a pattern of four major businesses: engine, vehicle, auto parts, and yacht. At the same time, Weichai has established a global R&D platform for “five countries and ten places” and has 10 research and development centers in Weifang, Shanghai, Chongqing, Yangzhou, Hangzhou, Xi’an, North America, and Europe.

In 2008, Tan Xuguang proposed that Weichai's sales revenue exceeded 100 billion yuan in 2012, and this goal has now been achieved. According to Weichai's plan, sales revenue in 2015 will reach 200 billion yuan, sprinting the top 500 in the world.

In most cases, standards are interchangeable, as most local standards have been aligned with ISO standards.

Flanges are also made in standardized sizes, usually in "flat", "convex", "mortise" or "ring joint" styles, but other ambiguous styles may be available.
