Volvo: Plan to Launch LNG Truck Engine in 2014

According to the European press 4wheelsnews, Volvo Trucks plans to launch a 13-liter LNG engine to the North American market in 2014. At the same time, a new type of natural gas fuel, DME, will be introduced as another alternative energy source.

As the cost of fuel increases, the company plans to continue working to improve efficiency. Volvo is also carefully considering whether to choose LNG to match compressed natural gas products. They claim that the new engine can increase efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. In addition, Volvo also stated that the new engine can improve energy efficiency without sacrificing any torque or power. Currently, manufacturers have conducted road tests on this dimethyl ether-powered car. Volvo also expects that this fuel may become an option for large quantities of natural gas in North America.

Ron Huibers, president of Volvo North America Sales and Marketing, stated that by using seven different fuel-powered cars in 2007, they have proven their strength. He further pointed out that they will continue to improve their work on the premise of using alternative fuels and power systems. In addition, he also mentioned their "comprehensive strategy, including natural gas, liquefied natural gas, and dimethyl ether with great potential, which means that with the improvement of infrastructure, we will have a complete natural gas solution."
