According to reports, the total investment of the 200,000-ton-per-year coal-to-ethylene glycol project of Boyuan Investment Group Inner Mongolia Sunid Alkali Industry Co., Ltd. is expected to reach 2.3 billion yuan, which will be constructed in two phases. The first phase of 100,000 tons/year of ethylene glycol is expected to be in 2012. In September of this year, a stand-alone trial was carried out with an investment of 1.3 billion yuan; the second phase of the 100,000-ton/year ethylene glycol project is planned to invest 1 billion yuan. The project is located in Xilin Gol League, Inner Mongolia. At present, the project has entered the infrastructure and civil engineering phase of the underground pipeline network. This year it plans to complete a total investment of 100 million yuan. From January to September, it has completed investment of more than 10 million yuan. The project strives to put into production by the end of 2012. It is understood that Boyuan Group has signed a coal gasification technology transfer and special equipment import contract with Kellogg-Road (KBR) of the United States. At the same time, it is negotiating with Ube Industries, Japan to discuss the synthesis of dimethyl oxalate and ethylene glycol. The project uses world-class clean coal gasification technology to produce ethylene glycol. It is designed to use coal gasification tail gas to produce soda ash and baking soda to achieve organic integration of natural alkali chemicals and coal chemical industry, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and achieve low-carbon economy and circular economy. The construction of the project will lay a solid foundation for the adjustment of product structure, implementation of circular economy and energy-saving and emission reduction of Boyuan Investment Group, an over-sized energy chemical company in Inner Mongolia.
